Info[]

Hanaru is one of the smallest human nations, and is one of the weakest ones within the realm as well. Dependent on the protection of the elves of Cypris and Elivite, as well as the kingdom of Ardin to the north, Hanaru is largely a trade and farming center, often passed through but overlooked by various travelers of the Southern Commonwealth.

It is the main town of Shattered Realms: Mortal Tale.

History[]

In 1448 PEv3, the first settlers to the region established a basic outpost on the lakeshore, traveling from the north with the hopes of evading the authority of the crown of Candora, and the Imperial Majorians. While the great War of Illiad had come to an end, and had brought much of the realm together in that time, highborn Majorians long still despised Elivites, citing their superior natural magic capabilities and physical prowess.

It was this plus stagnate society at the hands of aristocrats that drove these early settlers, who were initially and reluctantly accepted by the elves of Cypris, into these lands. However, this unsteady tolerance ended with the excessive cutting of lumber, and the provoking of the ancient forest spirits. The first major conflict of its time began, with battles against enraged nature spirits, and livid elves, though both sides grew tired and signed an accord. The elves would weave wood for the humans, while the humans would abstain from felling trees. The nature spirits however, did not agree to this, and to this day, Hanaru's civilians fear being alone in the woods, for the spirits are all too quick to get revenge.

With their first conflict behind them and a steady supply of lumber, Hanaru grew for a time, until the era of Mayor Tambriel, when bandits from the east deserts discovered the more lush lands Hanaru resided within, and began a campaign of blood and terror that has lasted into present history. Hanaru was sacked and looted, many lost their lives. Those who survived would rebuild, to be accosted year after year.

The valuable location made Hanaru an area where trade was common, and so traders frequented the journey in spite of the danger. Only within the last few decades has change in this bloody tale taken place. A prominent trading lord, Baron Radel Randivid, felt the sting of the bandits for far too long. Taking his sizable private military, he taught the locals how to defend themselves, and erected a forward wall to prepare for the next raid.

When the bandits returned, a great bloody clash resulted in Hanaru's first victory against the eastern bandits, leading to many violent but successful battles to force the bandits out of the Ancient Hills. Maintaining a powerful military presence, he reshaped Hanaru into a successful engine of commerce and might, becoming the first true lord of the land. Not everything the Baron did was a success, for his romantic life crumbled and his daughter disappeared, leaving the man melancholy and full of regrets, but ever focused on maintaining the future of the city state.

Within the next few years, it is expected that the Baron will drive the Bandits out for good.

Culture[]

Hanaru is an isolated culture that largely cares little for outside affairs, focused more on everyday life. The people live often in a simple minded culture, compared to some of the other nations, the people are less educated. Magic and other supernatural things are regarded with fear and distrust, magic users are often refereed to as witches or monsters despite the common practice outside their borders.

The village is ruled by Baron Radel, a prominent trader and former tactician who rose to power after creating the village's military after a major Orc raid several years past, and has since helped make the town thrive amidst its otherwise lowly status.

Military[]

Hanaru has an organized military with several notable ranks. The military complex is centered around Baron Radel's estate, on the east side of Hanaru where it is most vulnerable to attack. The rest of the village is located in thick forest and surrounded by a massive lake, making access restricted beyond its north entrance and the eastern entrance.

Ranks:

  1. General - Gardis
  2. Lieutenant General - Gardis' underling that aids him in battle and organizational matters.
  3. Major - A small number of Majors work together to oversee the numerous field teams headed by Captains. A meeting between the Majors, Lieutenant General, General, and Baron Radel is required before any major military action against a sovereign power may be taken.
  4. Captain - Many Captains work to provide stability to the land Hanaru oversees, it is not uncommon for multiple to work together in a single matter. In conflicts, several teams band together to form a much greater armed force, headed by one of the Majors.
  5. Lieutenant - A soldier recognized for their deeds and granted greater freedoms and privileges under the Hanaru banner. Often the direct assistants to a Captain, this isn't a rank of authority but of distinguish. Where a common soldier might be ignored in a complaint of misconduct by a higher officer, a Lieutenant's word is considered more trustworthy, and so they are rarely abused as they can easily report to their Captain and have it silenced.
  6. Footsoldier- A normal soldier with no authority and prestige, working any number of jobs.
